Recalls and Alerts: November 26–27, 2024

eFood Alert – Here is the latest list of food safety recalls, product withdrawals, allergy alerts and miscellaneous compliance issues.

Recall Canceled: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has determined that a laboratory error incorrectly caused the October 18, 2024 recall announcement concerning Church Brothers Farms’ Green Onions. The products from Church Brothers did not contain Salmonella and the recall has been rescinded. [It’s unclear whether the lab workers who created a false alarm have been recalled themselves. – HH] 

USA: CDC reports eleven confirmed cases of Listeria monocytogenes in a four-state outbreak that began in 2021. One person has died, and nine have been hospitalized. The illnesses are linked to consumption of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products from Yu Shang Food, a USDA-inspected establishment.

USA: FDA is investigating a new outbreak of 63 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium linked to a not yet identified product.

Food Safety Recall: Handsome Brook Farms recalls Kirkland Signature brandOrganic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs (Julian code 327; Use by Jan 6, 2025; UPC 9661910680) due to potential for Salmonella contamination. The recalled eggs were distributed into 25 Costco stores in the States of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee beginning November 22, 2024.

Food Safety Recall: Pero Family Farms Food Company LLC recalls Pero Family Farms Squash Sliced Zucchinni & Yellow Squash (11 oz; Lot #346918; Expiration date 10/28/2024) due to potential for Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Rise N’ Shine Farm, Inc. that an October 23-27, 2023 inspection of the company’s shell egg farm and egg processing facility found serious violations of the Prevention of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) in Shell Eggs During Production, Storage, and Transportation regulation (the shell egg regulation), Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 118 (21 CFR 118), as well as sanitation concerns.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Tova Industries, LLC that an August 5, 2024 through August 8, 2024, inspection of the company’s dry goods and ready to eat (RTE) foods facility revealed serious violations of the Emergency Permit Control regulation (Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 108 (21 CFR 108)) and Acidified Foods regulation (21 CFR Part 114).
