EL PASO, Texas (KFOX) — A recording of an English teacher at a high school in Texas stirred up debate with parents and students.
The moment in a Franklin High School teacher’s class Monday was recorded and later shared on a local blogger’s Facebook account.
The post asked people looking at the video to be vigilant: “Be vigilant! Talk to your kids, be involved with your schools, make your voice heard, VOTE!”
In the video, the teacher is heard saying,
“Stop calling them that. You’re not allowed to label people like that. Stop it, Diego. We are not going to call them that. We’re going to call them, MAPs. Minor Attracted Persons. So don’t judge people just because they want to have sex with a 5-year-old.”
Hellen Maese commented on the Facebook post, saying, “Normalizing pedophilia under the guise of compassion. What a sick world.”
KFOX spoke to parents at Franklin High School about the video and their initial reaction when they heard it.
The El Paso Independent School District stated it is aware of the classroom situation and is investigating.
A spokesperson from EPISD said:
“Any allegation of potential misconduct is investigated thoroughly, and the safety of our students is a top priority. As this is a personnel matter, no further information will be shared at this time…. ”
