“My newly adopted shelter dog killed someone’s dog today”

reddit.com/r/dogs – Guys, I’ve really been through it today. Sorry if this is super long and full of errors, my adrenaline is still kicking full force and I’m typing single handed.

Yesterday I adopted a dog from our local no-kill rescue. I met the dog twice – once when I first saw him, then put him on a 24 hour hold, then came back yesterday and adopted.

Gorgeous blue nose pitbull with soulful eyes – he was friendly with me, just wanted to chill in the meet and greet area and smell all of the smells. He wasn’t really all about petting, but that was fine because I’m not big on velcro dogs anyways.

The rescue said that he had lived with other dogs/animals on a farm before, and that he had passed his temperament tests with flying colors.

In retrospect I should have asked more questions, but since they gave him the green light to adopt to a home with kids, dogs, cats I didn’t think too much about it.

This morning, I woke up early to check on him. He had gone to the bathroom on the floor overnight so I walked into the kitchen to grab some towels/cleaner. I had my back turned for a second when I heard a huge crash, and realized that my new dog had full on broke through my front window.

Then I heard the most awful sounds from the street, I don’t think I’ll ever get them out of my head. I run out and see him ragdolling the neighbor’s dog in his mouth, both neighbor and dog screaming bloody murder.

I ran out the same way the dog did, in pajamas and bare feet, and tried to pry my new dog off of the neighbors. He wasn’t wearing a collar because I hadn’t bought one yet, so I didn’t have any grip to try to pull him off. Honestly it’s kind of a blur.

Other neighbors came out to help, I think it took 10 or so minutes to get him to release the neighbors dog fully. He only lost interest when the dog was limp. There was a ton of blood …
