Matthew Magee named as tall man in Queen’s funeral procession

Matthew Magee, who stands at 7ft 2in, caught the eye during the Queen's funeral

YORKSHIRE LIVE – Viewers around the world have been getting distracted by an exceptionally tall man in Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral procession.

Many on Twitter keep asking who the very tall man is who has regularly featured as part of the procession.

Mistakenly, many have believed the man is the person who Queen Elizabeth II affectionately referred to as ‘Tall Paul’ – because of his height. He was also present during today’s proceedings.

Paul Whybrew was considered one of the Queen’s most loyal aides. Nicknamed ‘Tall Paul’ because he stands at 6ft 4in, the staff member was one of the Queen’s regular companions in her final days.

According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, Whybrew was one of ‘the most powerful’ royal aides because the Queen highly valued his relationship.

In fact, it is understood that the tall man who has caught the eye today is actually Matthew Magee, who stands at 7ft 2in.

Matthew Magee was hired to replace Samantha Cohen as Queen Elizabeth’s assistant private secretary in 2018.

Before that, he was Prince Edward’s private secretary but sources said he had been chosen to work for the Queen because of his ‘brilliant brain’.

The Sun report, a royal insider said at the time of his employment with the Queen:

“He is a smashing guy with a great sense of humour and the Queen will love working with him on a daily basis.”
