 CBS Boston – A 70-year-old man was killed in an apparent fireworks accident on July 4th in Wareham, Massachusetts.

It happened at 9:19 p.m. on Beach Street near Swift’s Beach in Wareham Friday night. Police said the man, Robert Spagnuolo of Wareham, suffered a facial injury from a firework and died at the scene.

According to witnesses, Spagnuolo was setting off fireworks at the beach when one exploded in his face. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.

Wareham Police, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Bomb Squad and the Massachusetts Fire Marshal’s Office are all investigating the incident … SOURCE.

Fourth of July fireworks explosion at Lake Martin leaves 6 people injured

Alabama News, AL.com – Six people were injured in the fireworks explosion on a launch pad in Lake Martin at 9:14 p.m on the Fourth of July.

A pontoon boat that had been modified into a fireworks platform malfunctioned during the planned fireworks celebration.

The Alabama Law Enforcement on Saturday said the fireworks were not permitted.

Those injured were William C. Davis, 39, Aaron L. Kovak, 49, Alan Simmons, 31, Johnathan R. Wilmarth, 43, Joshua A. Husted, 36, and Matthew Davila, 28.

Davis and Kovak were airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, and Simmons was taken to Lake Martin Community Hospital in Dadeville.

Wilmarth, Husted, and Davila were also taken to area hospitals for medical treatment … SOURCE. 

Fireworks accident sends West Virginia man to hospital with ‘severe groin, leg injuries’

BRUCETON MILLS, W.Va. (WV News) — A man was seriously injured in a fireworks accident around 10 p.m. on July 4 near Big Bear Lake in Preston County, prompting a rapid emergency response.

The incident occurred when a mortar-style firework detonated and struck the man in the groin area, causing a large laceration and major blood loss.

Emergency responders on scene immediately applied a tourniquet in an effort to control the bleeding. [When a man is struck in the groin, where do they put the tourniquet? – Ed.]

HealthNet was contacted for potential air transport, with weather conditions being evaluated for flight safety. Monongalia EMS was also alerted due to the need for a potential emergency blood transfusion … SOURCE.
