The Berkshire (Massachusetts) District Attorney has identified Joshua Jadusingh, 27, as the victim killed by a neighbor who was trying to stop a pair of attacking pit bulls.
Initially, police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a dog attack at the apartment building.
When the two officers and a K9 unit responded they found two mature male pit bulls fighting.
The dogs turned to attack officers and police shot and killed the animals with their service weapons.
Police then found Jadusingh had been hit and killed by a crossbow arrow – known as a bolt – in the apartment.
“Investigators currently believe a neighbor heard the commotion, called police and then made entry into the apartment,” a spokesman said. “The neighbor got a crossbow and shot at the dogs.”
The arrow hit one of the dogs in the neck, penetrated a door and hit Jadusingh.
