Cops Issue Rabid Coyote Alert In State That Just Banned Coyote Hunts

Days after the Commonwealth of Massachusetts banned “cruel” coyote hunts, local police and animal control officers are warning residents to be on the lookout for rabid coyotes, like this one that came after a woman in her own driveway on Lynnbrook Rd. in the Boston suburb of Lynnfield. Lynnbrook Rd. is just half a mile from I-95 and fifteen miles from downtown Boston, yet it’s also within 1,000 feet of protected wildlife habitat – the perfect retreat for urban coyotes.

In state that just banned organized coyote hunts, residents are being warned to look out for rabid coyotes 

LYNNFIELD, MASS. (WHDH) – Massachusetts wildlife officials are urging the public to report any unusual animal behavior after a rabid coyote cornered a Lynnfield woman in her driveway earlier this week.

The coyote, which was captured on Monday, later tested positive for rabies, according to Animal Control.

“He came right up to me and did not run away when I yelled,” Kerriane Allain told 7NEWS.

Allain says she was taking down Christmas decorations when she came face-to-face with the animal.
