WWMT, NEWS CHANNEL 3  — In 2022, breast augmentation was the second most popular plastic surgery procedure in America, that’s according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Now, a certified plastic surgeon in Michigan, says the harmful side effects caused by the implants are vastly going unreported.

He’s hoping more women will come forward, so the FDA bans the devices for good.

NewsChannel 3 Anchor Jessica Harthorn reconnects with a Mid-Michigan woman she interviewed 11 years ago, about why she chose to get breast implants at 18 years old.

For the last several years, she said its been a nightmare trying to figure out the root cause of her failing health, and she showed Jessica what happened to her body within hours of removing her breast implants.

Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick publicly announced she was removing her breast implants after being diagnosed with Breast Implant Illness.

“For me, I had a lot of self-esteem issues in high school, and so when I turned 18, I already knew, I told my parents, I’m doing this,” Dansville resident Beth Wheeler said.

It was a life-altering decision for Beth. In 2003, she paid for saline breast implants following high school graduation, but everything changed after she replaced them with silicone in 2015.

“And that’s when all the health stuff started,” Beth said.

Beth said she noticed right away the weight gain, and daily migraines or headaches. It progressed to skin rashes, high blood pressure, cloudy eyes, and numbness in her feet and hands.

“They would curl up like this, and I would have to pry my fingers apart. I didn’t think I was going to make it to 40, is how horrible I felt,” Beth said.

Doctors tested her for several auto-immune diseases, but surprisingly, she said her blood work came back normal.

“I couldn’t figure it out, and doctors couldn’t figure it out,” Beth said.

She didn’t give up, seeking out specialists and visiting her primary care every week for years …

DAILYMAIL.COM – NASCAR racer Danica Patrick, 40, says she feels ‘better about her body’ after removing breast implants that left her suffering dizziness, weight gain, and hair loss – as she warns Breast Implant Illness is ‘a hidden epidemic’

The professional driver, 40, had a boob job back in 2014 because she said she wanted to have an ‘ideal body’ and appear more ‘feminine’

But after spending years feeling unwell and not knowing why, she found out was suffering from what she believed to be a condition called Breast Implant Illness

Patrick said ‘it felt like nothing was working’ and that her body was ‘slipping’ after she got the implants

She said her ‘hormones were off’ and her thyroid was low, and she suffered from hair loss, weight gain, fatigue, dizziness, and many other health problems

Eventually, she decided to go under the knife once again. Patrick got the breast implants removed in April, and right away, she said she saw a major difference

Now, she is sharing her story in the hopes of helping other women who may be suffering from the same thing, since BII is ‘not universally recognized
