LOS ANGELES — Legendary director Rob Reiner and his longtime wife have been found stabbed to death inside their Brentwood home — and investigators are eyeing the couple’s troubled adult son as a person of interest, according to law enforcement sources. [UPDATE: Son Nick Reiner has reportedly been arrested.]
The 78-year-old “When Harry Met Sally” director and his 68-year-old wife were found Sunday afternoon by their daughter, Romy, sources told The Post.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the couple’s family said in a statement.
Reiner was “a political force, an outspoken supporter of progressive causes and a Democratic Party activist who went beyond the typical role of celebrities who host glitzy fundraisers.” – LA Times
Reiner was deeply involved in issues that he cared about, such as early childhood education and the legalization of same-sex marriage.
“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Reiner, 78, is best known for a slew of classic ’80s and ’90s hit films, including “When Harry Met Sally,” “Princess Bride,” “Spinal Tap” and “A Few Good Men.”
Nick has been open about his issues battling drug addiction and homelessness in the past.
“I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun,” he told People in an interview in 2016.
Officers had the street blocked off in front of the Reiners’ house, and detectives could be seen going in and out of the residence.
A Post reporter on the scene observed a man who identified himself as Rocco tell cops he was Reiner’s assistant, and offered help to access the home.
A neighbor told The Post that comedian Billy Crystal — a longtime friend of Reiner — was spotted arriving at the home. Larry David was also seen at the home following the murders and Crystal “looked like he was about to cry,” according to ABC 7 …
