A missing persons poster identified the boy as 2-year-old Boden Allen.
Boden had reportedly wandered off from his Seligman, Arizona home, a remote desert town with a population of less than 1,000 people.
A massive search effort got underway immediately after the boy was reported missing, with 40 search and rescue personnel that included deputies from the Yavapai and Coconino County Sheriff’s Offices as well as members of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The search lasted well throughout the night, with officials becoming concerned due to low temperatures in the region and the prevalence of predators in the desert at night.
