New Rule for Boy Scouts: All Campers Must Receive Free Condoms
| Scout event requires availability of condoms everywhere
(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) The World Organization of the Scout Movement, of which the Boy Scouts of America is a member, is requiring that condoms be provided for all attendees of its annual 12-day camping conference.
The 24th World Jamboree, to be held next year at the summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, must now “ensure that condoms are readily and easily accessible for all participants and IST [staff] at a number of locations on the site.”
“Heads of Contingent must be informed in advance and made aware of their responsibility in communicating this policy to their Participants, Unit Leaders, Contingent Staff, and IST in an appropriate way,” the guidelines state.
Instead of promoting the Boy Scout Motto: “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the scout law; to help other people at al times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight,” the organization is anticipating sexual encounters between minors.
“Campout promotes outrageous and dangerous behavior.”
The new guidelines also demand that certain locations provide alcohol for adults at the event.
“These guidelines which include condoms and alcohol are completely irresponsible,” said Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit litigation group. “I can’t imagine any parents who want to send their children to a campout that promotes this kind of outrageous and dangerous behavior.”
The new guidelines for the World Jamboree follow the Boy Scouts’ announcement that it is now a “genderless organization,” meaning it will accept both males and females into its program.
This change triggered an angry response from the Girl Scouts of America organization, which said the BSA should be focusing on systematic issues, like sexual harassment and assault.
“The Boy Scouts’ house is on fire,” the organization said in a statement, according to WND.com. “Instead of addressing systemic issues of continuing sexual assault, financial mismanagement, and deficient programming, BSA’s senior management wants to add an accelerant to the house fire by recruiting girls.”
