BIDEN: U.S. ‘Obligation’ to Grant Free Healthcare to Illegals

(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) Presidential hopeful Joe Biden said the U.S. has an “obligation” to give illegal immigrants free healthcare.

“I think that anyone who is in a situation where they’re in need of healthcare, regardless of whether they are documented or undocumented, we have an obligation to see that they are cared for,” Biden said during a campaign rally in Los Angeles. “That’s why I think we need more clinics around the country.”

Illegal immigration is at an all-time high, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which detained 109,144 illegal immigrants along the southern border last month, according to The Washington Post.

Immigration authorities have voiced alarm that the number detained represents only a small fraction of those entering the U.S. illegally.

But Biden dismissed these concerns and said most border-crossers were now actively seeking asylum while taking advantage of “catch and release” legal loopholes.

He also downplayed the border crisis altogether, repeating a disputed left-wing talking point that most illegals had arrived legally.

“By the way a significant portion of undocumented folks in this country are there because they overstayed their visas,” he said. “It’s not people breaking down gates coming across the border, so the biggest thing we got to do on this thing is tone down the rhetoric. We know why it’s happening. It’s to create fear and concern.”

Biden is currently the front-runner in the Democratic race, drawing 46 percent of potential primary support compared with the next highest, Sen. Bernie Sanders, at 14 percent, according to a poll in May taken before the recent remarks.

Although often touted as one of the more moderate candidates opposing President Donald Trump, the former vice president has regularly touted an open borders scheme, claiming in 2014 that illegal immigrants deserved amnesty.

“You know, 11 million people live in the shadows. I believe they’re already American citizens,” Biden said at a Washington gathering of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2014. “These people are just waiting, waiting for a chance to contribute fully. And by that standard, 11 million undocumented aliens are already Americans, in my view.”

Biden said any immigrant who enters the U.S., regardless of citizenship status, should have the right to vote as well.

He attacked Trump during his campaign rally and said the president was trying “to demonize people” through his firm support of enforcing immigration laws.

“It isn’t who we are,” Biden said. “We’re better than that.” Source.
