10 Foods Men Should Stop Eating

Because there are so many better things to eat

(K. Aleisha Fetters, Men’s Fitness) If you’re ready to take steps towards better health, ban these foods from your pie-hole. (Don’t worry, pie’s not on the list.)

1. Processed Meats

Apart from being packed with preservatives and sodium, processed meats are high in nitrates, which are linked to stomach cancer. Many processed meats are shockingly low in protein, giving your cold-cut sandwich few redeeming qualities.

2. Margarine

Margarine’s trans fats put you at risk for heart disease and diabetes – far worse than the natural fat in butter.

3. Sugary Cereals

High in sugar, low in nutrition, sugary cereals set you up for fat gain and a 3 pm slump. Since most guys don’t buy cereal in single-serving packages, it’s easy to eat 5+ in a single sitting – that’s three days’ worth of sugar.

4. Fast-Food Burgers

Ultra cheap food is made from ultra cheap ingredients. Enough said.

5. Donuts

Refined grains, sugar, and deep-fried foods; donuts qualify for all three unhealthy categories.

6. Microwave Popcorn

Microwave popcorn’s trans fats offset any benefits its fiber holds. Pop your own on the stove or in an air popper.

7. Toaster Pastries

“My local food bank stopped taking these,” one nutritionist said. If your food bank doesn’t want them, they have to be bad.

8. Blended Coffee Drinks

Your blended beverage probably contains more sugar and fat than actual coffee. By spiking your blood sugar and insulin, it guarantees a sugar and energy crash 30 minutes later.

9. Bagels

Not only are their carbs refined, leaving you with little more than sugar in bagel form, bagels can top 400 calories each. And that’s before the cream cheese.

10. Soda

The list of reasons you shouldn’t drink soda includes weight gain, diabetes, and heart disease. And drinking soda can age you by as much as smoking. Read the full article at Men’s Fitness. Also of interest: 5 ‘Super Foods’ That Actually Live up to Their Reputations
